I am currently reading about breathing techniques to help athletes get focused under pressure. Get ready to try some new things as we prepare for a BIG season at Perry! I am excited to learn from this book and many others in the next month to prepare myself for the 2016 season.
What are you doing to prepare? Click this article for a short read... Very interesting!I've found two articles (click the buttons above) that can give you some insight on ways to earn play time, no matter the sport you are playing!
I love the point that the second articles makes: 6. Look for the good of the team instead of focusing on yourself If your time on the field is all about getting your own goal or attention, then you put the spotlight on yourself. That’s great if you do something awesome, but in many cases, it’s going to highlight your weaknesses. Instead, focus on doing something that makes the team look amazing. What a great outside perspective on being a selfish player! Here are the three rules Coach Mac makes in the first article... Do you break these rules? I bet if you are not happy with your current situation, you break #1 all the time. Your excuses can get in the way of your growth mindset. Don't blame others even if you feel it's justified, because it's just a waste of time. Rule #1 – Stop the Excuses Excuses and complaining aren’t going to get you more time on the court even if they’re justified. You must focus your energy on the things that are in your control. These things in your control include: your attitude, the amount of shots you make every day, your fitness level, etc. Rule #2 – Be Patient You must understand that earning more playing time is not something that’s going to happen overnight. You can’t implement a few of the tips I’m about to share with you and expect that you’re instantly going to get an extra 10 minutes a game on the court. It will take time. You need to keep working hard, working smart, and focusing on the tips below. If you do this your opportunity will come. Rule #3 – Always Put the Team First Even though this article is focusing on increasing individual playing time, when it truly comes down to it you must always want what’s best for the team. The team is always the number one priority. Even if you believe you’re unfairly stuck on the end of the bench you should always be cheering and encouraging your teammates during games. You should always be the first to rush over and help a teammate up after they’ve taken a charge, always make the extra pass and pass up a good shot for yourself for a great shot by a teammate. Make your teammates better. Don’t be a player that cares more about their individual stats than the success of the team. Volleyball is undoubtedly a team sport. IF you have your mental game in check and accept your role, you will fall in love with your team and the game. |
